Technical Ceramics
Technical Ceramics are specialist ceramics which have been designed and manufactured to have combinations of properties which can’t be found in traditional ceramic materials.
IPS Ceramics has extensive experience of manufacturing and supplying technical ceramic materials to many industries throughout the world, alongside our cordierite ranges. Our high-quality technical ceramic materials are commonly used in applications demanding high mechanical strength, abrasion/chemical resistance, electrical insulation, thermal conductivity, or resistance to high temperatures.
IPS CERAMICS’ TECHNICAL CERAMICS RANGE
Alumina
Alumina is the most widely used technical ceramic, being the ceramic of choice for approximately 80% of engineering applications due to its versatile combination of properties. Zirconia toughened Alumina is also available.
Aluminium Nitride
Aluminium Nitride has the highest thermal conductivity of any ceramic material (on par with most metals), as well as extremely good electrical insulation. This makes it the top-of-the-range choice for the most demanding of heat sink applications.
Silicon Carbide
These products are used for heat treatment and applications involving higher temperatures or weights that would not be suitable for our Cordierite Kiln Furniture products. Also used in applications designed to reduce mass, save on energy consumption and increase output compared to previous setups.
Silicon Nitride
An extremely tough and durable material with extremely high mechanical strength and thermodynamic stability. Used extensively for welding-jig fixtures, location pins, liners for induction heating equipment, and impact resistant components.
Steatite
Has excellent electrical resistance properties and good mechanical strength which are retained even at high temperatures. Steatite is a ceramic material used extensively for insulators in the electrical and electronic industries.
Tungsten Carbide
Tungsten Carbide is a metal/ceramic hybrid, combining the properties of metals and ceramics into a material suitable for the toughest applications. Our cemented tungsten carbide has a cobalt binder, producing a powerhouse material with extreme hardness, immense strength, and excellent corrosion resistance.
Zirconia
A very fine-grained ceramic tough enough to survive extreme engineering applications. Our Zirconia is sintered to full density for maximum strength, wear resistance, and hardness, allowing it to retain a sharp edge for much longer than metal materials. For this reason, it is often used to produce industrial knives or blades.
