GENERAL OVERVIEW

Batts (otherwise known as plates, tiles and shelves) are used as a basic support element in most kiln and furnace structures, forming a flat, rigid surface which carries the ware during firing, sintering or heat treatment. Made from cordierite, they are flat, strong, and dependable products used throughout the ceramic industry for a range of applications (including biscuit, decorative and glost firings for the tableware industry, casting in the powder metal industry, and linings for the food industry).

IPS Ceramics’ cordierite plain batts are resistant to thermal shock cracking, making them suitable for modern, faster firing cycles.

Cordierite batts, plates, tiles and shelves from IPS Ceramics are available in a large range of sizes and with features such as grooves, recesses, holes and ribs. Batts can be coated with batt wash or engobe to prevent product from sticking to the batt.

For applications involving temperatures above 1350^oC, we would recommend Silicon Carbide Batts, Plates, Tiles and Shelves.
